Frequently Asked Questions

  • Pooling or Standing Water: If you notice pools of water or damp areas above or near your septic field, it’s a clear indication that the wastewater isn’t being absorbed properly by the soil. This could be caused by clogged or saturated soil.
  • Odors: Foul smells near the septic field or around the drain field area are a strong sign of system failure. These odors can be caused by the effluent (wastewater) not properly filtering through the soil.
  • Slow Draining or Backups: If you experience slow drains, frequent toilet backups, or gurgling sounds from plumbing fixtures, the septic system might be overwhelmed or clogged, which can often be traced to a problem in the leach field.
  • Lush, Unusually Green Grass: If the grass over the septic field appears overly lush and green, this could indicate that the wastewater is not being properly filtered and is instead being absorbed by the surface, providing extra nutrients.
